For the love of horses

I'm a great believer that to photograph horses, dogs or indeed any animal, you must have an understanding of them. 

My fascination with horses started when I was a very young lass, watching programmes like Black Beauty, films like National Velvet and growing up in the town that hosts the Midlands Grand National, it was only a matter of time before I was working with these beautiful creatures.  Working at different yards over many years, riding out, a little bit of show jumping etc it is that experience that I draw on now to photograph them.  Since returning to photography in 2010/11 I've lost count on how many equestrian commissions I have completed, show jumping, dressage, hunter trials, portraits etc. and I've got lots of favourite images from each 'field'.  But the image I share here is one of my ultimate favourites.  Just to quote a lady briefly who said she 'felt quite emotional when looking at this beautiful photograph as she could see his soul' ..... That is quite a review and one where I say to myself that's a job well done!
